    Online learning provides ease of access to the course content, making it convenient to view when you are ready. You can access the course independently when required, also enabling you to review the content as many times as you would like to, allowing you to absorb the information, at your own pace.

  • Is online learning right for me?

    Whilst we have sought to make this course as interactive and engaging as possible, everyone is different. You will need to be able to work through the content independently and to work through the reflective activities sequentially to get the most out of the course. You will also need to practise the skills taught whilst working with your child to develop greater levels of confidence towards mastery.

  • How is the course delivered?

    The course is delivered online through pre-recorded videos with accompanying downloadable resources.

  • Who is the target audience for this course?

    The target audience for this course are parents/caregivers/home schooling parents/home school organisations who want to teach their child/children to read and write effectively. The beginners course is designed for children from the ages of 2.5-6 years.

  • What are the pre-requisites for this course?

    The course content is delivered in English. You will be expected to have an intermediate understanding and command of the English language to participate in the course. You also need to be able to download and print resources for the course content (laminating some resources will support their longevity).

  • What is included in this course?

    Online training that provides 14 interactive recorded lessons - 3 lessons that provide parenting skills training, 3 lessons prepare you to understand your child as a learner, 7 lessons to support your understanding of the component parts of the Rooted in Sounds system (training you to teach your child to effectively learn the skills of reading and writing) and 1 lesson on how to assess your child’s progress to create equity and differentiation. The course also includes a workbook and action plan with prompts to support your engagement and reflection, the Rooted in Sounds reading and writing system - (Language and Vocabulary, Word Meaning, Language Comprehension and Mark Making, Letter Sound and Alphabet Knowledge, Phonemic Awareness skills, Phonics & Handwriting, Fluency, Spelling, Grammar & Reading Comprehension), lesson plans and resources to help you to teach your child which include - downloadable resources (alliteration cards, letter sound order chart, letter sound cards, consonant cluster cards, a wordbank, decodable words, phrase strips, decodable readers and Thorny words). You will also receive three children's workbooks, activities to consolidate learning and a monitoring and evaluation document

  • How much time and effort do I need to invest in this online course?

    There are approximately 7 hours of content to cover in the 14 recorded lessons provided. You may want to include time for you to review the recordings as you choose to. When you progress onto lesson 11, you will begin teaching your child the skills of reading and writing. It will take you on average 9 weeks to teach up to 4 phonemes (speech sounds) per week. There are downloadable resources available - a workbook with an action plan, a pupil workbook, lesson plans, resources to support lessons and activities. There are some resources that you will want to print. Some are best laminated for longevity.

  • Do we have to complete assignments?

    There are no set assignments, however we do ask that you complete all of the reflective questions and activities in one lesson before starting the next lesson. Do make time between lessons to review your notes to help the learning ‘stick.’
